Manchester was in eleventh place

Manchester is the eleventh best place in the country to work, according to a new study.

It came behind others towns such as; Nottingham, Coventry, Cambridge & Bradford to name a few, in a list based on how easy it is to get a job, affordability of housing, and employee satisfaction.

The league table was compiled by jobs site Glassdoor. Derby was down in 20th place, and neither London nor Birmingham featured in the top 20.

The report says that the median base salary in Manchester is £28,000, while the 'hot jobs' in the city are project manager, sales manager, and business development manager.

Dr Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor's chief economist, said: "Towns and cities such as Nottingham, Leeds and Reading offer decent salaries and job prospects combined with a lower cost of living, which means your money will go further, you can save, and still have a good quality of life.

"These results are a reminder that although there are more jobs in London and employees are generally pretty satisfied, it is a competitive place to work and an expensive place to live."
